Below I describe my favourite places on the planet. This not just a list of countries or cities; these are specific locations to stick your feet or your fanny. My reasons for nominating them vary; they are places that you just need to see for yourself.

The Edge of the Cliff
Thunder Rock Cove, Oregon, USA

Thunder Rock Cove is a little viewpoint along the coastal highway in southern Oregon. It's easy to miss. But if you do manage to stop there, follow the path through the forest towards the water. You'll end up on a small headland, fifty feet above the water. The view is miraculous, and the wind and the waves will let you experience the forces of creation firsthand.

A Stone Bench by the River
Eduardo Ruiz National Park, Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico

The national park is a forested strip running along a river in the heart of a large city. This particular bench is made of ancient stone, and overlooks the river and a small waterfall, and it is incredibly secluded and peaceful. It is an oasis in the heart of the urban landscape. To get to the bench, take the third path from the left out of the main park entrance, and whenever you get to a junction, take the path that leads downwards. If you get lost, well, that's not such a bad thing either.
